Wynne Channing

Where's the strangest place you've ever written?
As a reporter, I’ve had to
write on deadline on napkins, sitting on the ground in court houses or crouched
in storefronts in the middle of blizzards. Nothing makes you write faster than
when your fingers are freezing off.

What book do you wish you had written?
I wish my writing had the
literary lushness of Rohinton Mistry’s A Fine Balance.

What inspires you?
The crazy stuff that happens
in real life.

When did you start writing?
Before I could write words,
I drew stick-figure stories.

Tell us three things about you that aren’t about writing.
I teach and perform Latin
dance. (Learning to partner dance is like learning a language — it’s another
way to communicate. And choreography is just another creative outlet for me.) I
like gherkins and pyjamas — not necessarily together. I believe that if you
want something, you need to boldly go out there and take it (unless you’re
doing something illegal, in which case, I had no part in advising you).
